Weather

The weather in Cartagena is very mild and pleasant, making the city an ideal destination for holiday makers in both the summer and winter months. The city’s wonderful weather is certainly a factor in its popularity.

Cartagena and its surrounding areas are sheltered by hills and high mountains, allowing for a kind of micro climate. Such geography limits rainfall, and as a result, the region enjoys sunshine for an excess of 320 days per year. The sun is at its hottest during the summer, with temperatures rarely falling below 30°C (86°F), whereas the typically very mild winters, boast an average of around 18°C (64°F).

The province of Cartagena is famous for its salt lakes, with salt as a major export. This has a major effect on humidity levels, and as a result the air is much dryer than in other parts of Spain and Europe. Such low humidity levels coupled with mild climate, led the WHO (World Health Organization) to rate this part of Spain as having one of the healthiest climates on the planet.
