This century-old market building is made up of meticulous iron and glass works. Among the famous people who helped in completing the design of this building was Architect Pedro Cerdan, together with Victor Roquetas plus other designers. This edifice used to be the center for fruit and vegetable trade and although it is no longer used as a market nowadays, it still serves the La Union people well by being a favorite venue for the much anticipated annual Flamenco Festival. While waiting for the August Flamenco Festival, this building also holds different events every week for the rest of the year.
Casa Pinon
This is another building designed by Architect Pedro Cerdan. The three storey building got its name from a golden pinecone which happened to be a part of the building’s adornments. The portico of Casa Pinon is a lovely mélange of iron works, images of vicious lions sharply gazing towards the pedestrians, and colossal wooden windows. On top of the building is a 65 square meter turret which was designed by Alexander Gustave Eiffel, the man responsible for the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Unfortunately, the Casa Pinon is presently not at its best state anymore; it badly needs to be restored to bring it back to life, so to speak. The building is now owned by the local government, and it is now a part of their list of structures to be improved.
