Murcia

This booming and contemporary capital of the region is just a 20-minute drive inland. Similar to other Spanish cities, Murcia is also rich in history, which explains the existence of some of the outstanding Baroque structures of Spain . Murcia is also called a University City. Because of the University of Murcia , which is an interesting place to visit, the city has been a melting pot of both local and international individuals. The more than 30,000 students of this university has definitely added more life and vibrant ambience to this striking city.

Cartagena

As one of the wealthiest cities of the ancient world, it is fascinating to view the present day scenario of this township. Cartagena was founded over two thousand years ago, and the major seaport that made it so remarkable centuries ago still exists up to this day. This historical town boasts of several ancient edifices as well as flamboyant fiesta celebrations. September may be the best month to visit this town in order to witness the feverish celebration of the Cartheginensis Y Romanos . Seeing how the locals dress in costumes and make a life size replica of the olden camps will surely take you back to the glorious early centuries of Cartagena.

Aguilas

The town of Aguilas still holds an untouched atmosphere in spite of the developments that it has gone through in the past decades. This town s 28 kilometer coastline allows the Mediterranean sea to be very visible. This town is also prolific with soaring mountain ranges that are ideal for hiking, climbing, and other outdoor activities. Likewise, its beaches truly prove to be eye candies, with its white sand and crystal clear waters. You will surely enjoy relishing the sea completely, the sight of the turquoise shores, the smell of salt water, the touch of the sand on your feet. Engaging in various water sports will not be a difficult choice to make.

The Hornillo Wharf is still a standing reminder that this town was once a mining area during the early 19 th century. In the heart of Aguilas , several other interesting locations to visit are the San Jose Church , the century-old Town hall, and the gardens in Glorieta de la Plaza España where you can spot a lovely fountain known locally as Pava de la Balsa or Turkey in the Pool.

Similar to other towns of Murcia , Aguilas also has its share of zealous celebration. The Carnival de Aguilas has been enthusiastically celebrated by the locals for the past two centuries, and is surely one of the most anticipated festivals in the whole of Spain.

La Manga

Flanked by the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean sea is the town called La Manga , which literally means the sleeve. It is a narrow mass of land comprised of fine white sand beaches and other natural riches . La Manga is said to be a magnificent paradise offering 360 of scenic views. A lot of hotels, restaurants, bars, and spa resorts have been constructed in this area in response to its booming tourism industry. La Manga also has luxurious championship golf courses that are considered as the finest in Europe.

Mar Menor

Mar Menor,
which means Little Sea, is a tranquil area to be found at the north of Cartagena . The temperate waters of Mar Menor is said to be the largest saltwater lake in Europe.

Mar Menor s major tourist magnet is the open-air mud therapy business located in many sites in the town. The University of Murcia had studied the effects of the Mar Menor mud and found out that the minerals it contains provide beneficial osmotic effects on the interstitial tissue of the human body. It increases blood circulation and hence is very healthful. Aside from the relaxing effect that it gives, the mud therapy also gets rid of certain body toxins.
