Murcia International Jazz Festival

Where: Teatro Romea ,  Murcia ,  Spain

Opening Hours: Daytime sessions 1pm ; evening sessions 10pm

The Murcia International Jazz Festival celebrates with a line-up of internationally acclaimed artists. The event is held in the Plaza de Romea, whilst evening sessions take place in the Teatro Romea. Highlights of the three-day festival include the Domingo Sanchez Quartet, Joachim Kuhn Trio and Alvin Queen & Organics. The festival also features several local jazz groups. The tickets are free and can be picked up a few days beforehand from the box office or on the day of the concert - only two per person, that is.

Murcia 's Festival de Músic de Raíz (Roots Music Festival), held in the Plaza de Romea, features musicians and groups from all over the region.

Ainhoa Arteta

The Murcia Tres Culturas (Murcia Three Cultures) International Festival features an extensive program of concerts and cultural activities that focus on Judaism, Christianity and Islam, with highlights on religious tolerance and the mixing of cultures. A wide range of music and dance, as well as exhibitions and conferences take up the festival theme.

Program highlights in 2005 include soprano Ainhoa Arteta, who opens the event at the Auditorio y Centro de Congresos de Murcia , and performances by Souad Massi, The Georgia Mass Choir and Carmen Linares.

There are also traditional Arabic dances, flamenco, folkloric music, Jewish song evenings, music for Sufi poets, masses, book readings, choral and medieval music, American gospel and jazz, exhibitions about ancient and modern Judaism and the Spain of three cultures, pan-cultural cooking demonstrations and a whole host of other events to inspire and unite the public.
